This is our second BeachBRIEF
in order to provide regular
updates on the Beach Project.
We will be issuing these on a
regular bi-monthly basis in the
future.
Estuary Survey
Dylan
Anderson completed a full
bathymetric survey of the Kromme
River Estuary before leaving for
New Zealand at the end of July.
This information is required as
part of the data for calibrating
the tidal flows in and out of
the Estuary.
The Aquadopp
Profiler was deployed at two
different positions in the
Estuary as well as collecting
current data from the two
entrances to the canal system.
This data once finalised, will
provide detailed information on
what is going on in the St
Francis Waterways for detailed
modelling purposes as part of
the overall project.
Beach Erosion and Renourishment
We have
experienced severe erosion of
the unprotected frontal dunes in
the last few weeks. Pictures
are available on the
Beach Gallery on our new
website.
Detailed data
on the specifications for new
sand pumping facility required
for the Beach Renourishment part
of the project will shortly be
available. The renourishment
operation will pump sand from
the Kromme River Estuary to the
Main Beach at the Napier Road
parking area. This will replace
the old system which is
unusable.
EIA Process
The
finalisation of the
Environmental Impact Report
process originally started by
the Kouga Municipality has
recommenced. This was put on
hold in 2003 when there was no
agreement on how to proceed.
The Beach Trust have recently
appointed SRK Consultants who
produced the original EIA Report
to finalise the study using the
latest information contained in
the ASR Feasibility Study. We
anticipate having this exercise
completed early in 2007
following the public
participation process to be held
in December, 2006 when the
majority of homeowners are in
residence in the Village.
ASR International Surfing Reefs
Conference
The ASR
International Surfing Reefs
Conference was held recently in
Lombok, Indonesia with Dylan
Anderson giving a paper on the
St Francis Beach Project. It
has been suggested that the next
bi-annual conference to be held
in 2008 should be held in St
Francis. Bay. We will keep you
posted on developments on this
initiative.
