of the Environment and Tourism
in Pretoria on 19 April, 2006.

Preserving and Enhancing the
Local SFB Economy.
It is
important to note that much of
the Meeting with the Minister
focussed on the fact that if the
SFB Beach continues to erode
there is a real threat to the
local economy of the Village.
St Francis Bay relies on the
beach for much of its popularity
and success as a tourist
destination as well as being a
favoured beach resort for
holiday homes.
If the beach disappears and the
beachfront homes continue to be
threatened, then the long term
sustainability of St Francis Bay
will be at risk. In addition,
if we are to ensure that all
sections of our community
continue to prosper and flourish
it is essential that there must
be an innovative approach to the
issue of a major upgrading of
Sea Vista as an integral,
vibrant part of Greater St
Francis.
It is simply
not acceptable that Sea Vista is
still not seem by many residents
as part of the Greater St
Francis development area. The
reality is, that unless a
prosperous and thriving Sea
Vista experiences the benefits
of the ongoing development seen
in St Francis, initiatives like
the SFB Beach Project, will not
receive the right level of
support from the relevant
authorities.
“Vision 2020:” A Long Term
Strategy & Process
In order to
achieve the objectives of
securing the St Francis Bay
economy, while at the same time
“Saving Our Beach,” it is
essential that a long term
strategy needs to be put in
place. This will include all
members of the wider SFB
community while at the same time
involving all the role players
involved from the Kouga Council,
the Province and National
Government, as well as the
business sector.
“Saving Our
Beach”
has to be
part of a wider strategic
initiative to secure the Greater
St Francis area for future
generations of South African’s.
We cannot fail.
