Why
Was The Estuary Survey Required?
-
It is a necessary
part of completing a full investigation into the total system in SFB including
the Waterways, the Beach and the Offshore Reefs. In addition, the offshore
areas and estuary are managed by the National Department of Marine & Coastal
Management in conjunction with the Eastern Cape Department of Environment.
What Additional
Work Is Required:
-
We are working closely with a number of experts in various
fields, covering the plant, marine and bird life in the Estuary. This will lead
to a more detailed examination of how to retain the natural balance within the
environment while being able to achieve the broad objectives of “Saving our
Beach.”
Why Is The Estuary An
Environmentally Sensitive
Area?
How Can
We Preserve The Estuary
While Ensuring That We
Rehabilitate Our Beach?
-
Providing that we
research and manage our
resources correctly it
is possible to preserve
the special status of
the estuary while at the
same time removing sand
to rehabilitate the
beach. However, in order
to achieve this
objective it is
essential that we view
this as an integrated
process where care has
to be exercised in all
aspects of the project.
